Welcome Luis!

Tell us a bit about you and your background / journey before Humankind Research

Prior to joining Humankind Research, my research has focused on accessibility and disability, having worked alongside disabled and older people to understand the barriers they face in accessing services and products. While engaging in a variety of methodologies—surveys, interviews, focus groups, workshops, mystery shopping—my work has followed the social model of disability, grounded in co-designing inclusive solutions that put people’s access needs and capabilities first. I have a BSc in Social Policy from LSE.

What drew you to Humankind Research?

I had been aware of Humankind’s work for a few years and was always impressed by their commitment to social-purpose research across their projects. Seeing how they effortlessly interweave insight-led strategies with a genuine curiosity for lived-experiences made me really interested to be part of this team. Something that also stood out to me was the varied nature of their work. I got the sense that every project they worked on was entirely different from the previous one—from understanding how children play with Legos, to gendered and racial exclusion in sports, to communicating renewable energy and policy—which made it all that much exciting to join the team and get to explore this diversity of sectors and topics.

What are you looking forward to getting more stuck into in the near future?

I’m really looking forward to continuing my lived-experience work, and exploring how human insights can be put at the centre of service design and campaigns. So bring on the workshops and interviews!

What would you say is your 'research superpower'?

Curiosity. I’ve always been curious about the world and the people around me. I was definitely one of those kids who asked way too many questions, to the annoyance of the adults around me… Fortunately, I still haven’t lost that trait, and have been able to turn it into a career.
