Sports, Recreation & Outdoors

We are passionate about increasing equitable participation and helping as many people as possible experience the joy and benefits of sport and the outdoors. Our work is informed by behavioural science and contextualised in culture and systems to truly understand the triggers and barriers to sport and leisure pursuits and overcome say/do gaps.

Meaningful research in this space involves:

Taking fandom seriously: commitment to sport as a fan often transcends the rational! Our experienced and passionate team understand the emotional power of sport, and ensure research is kept at the ‘system 1’ level as much as possible.

Longitudinal approaches: understanding sport and exercise often requires more than one-shot research techniques. We use ongoing diaries, and techniques like mobile self-ethnography to explore patterns of behaviour over time.

Behaviour change: using a variety of models including COM-B and the behaviour change wheel, we provide robust guidance on how to encourage participation.
