Creating Safe, Joyful Spaces for Muslim Girls to Move

The FA x Nike

We spent time with Muslim girls across London to understand their real‑world experiences of PE and sport - the moments that lift them up, and the barriers that quietly hold them back.

Using mobile self‑ethnography and in‑depth conversations, we explored how faith, family, school culture and clothing norms shape their confidence and comfort in movement.

Their stories revealed a common thread: they love sport, but need spaces that feel genuinely safe, respectful and designed around what matters to them.

Our insights now guide Nike and the FA on how to create environments, products and programmes where Muslim girls can thrive on their own terms

Impact:

Practical, lived‑experience insight helping Nike and the FA make sport more welcoming - empowering Muslim girls to show up, take part and feel they truly belong.
